We recently read about the tumult in one the leading
automobile manufacturer’s manufacturing unit. Manufacturing units have long
been associated with such incidents. Labor unions form one part of a more
complex environment. Below I’ve tried to draw the many elements of a
manufacturing unit. Let us examine only one and the most important element –
People.
Elements of a Manufacturing units
There are many stakeholders . On the one
hand we have sophisticated and mature white collar professionals while on the
other hand we have the not-so-sophisticated blue collared workers. The drives
and behaviors needed to manage both these groups of people are different. For
e.g. one important question might the level of Dominance required or the
ability required to exert one’s influence on others that could be an important
element while dealing with worker unions.
Some of it also depends on the business unit’s stage in the
lifecycle. Below I’ve tried to draw a comparison between what the drives needed
for two very different manufacturing units
Different units with different needs
Predictive Index helps you to make these distinctions
through an objective process and also helps you to measure these drives on a scale.
The PRO helps you to analyze and define the drives necessary for successful
performance.
